About Event:

Sports historian and author Douglas Smith explores how war affected both amateur and professional football in England from 1914-1918 and will trace the development of the war using examples from the players of Birmingham City, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Moor Green Football Club who gave their lives during the course of the war.

Douglas Smith MBE has written a number of books including 'Who's For The Game' and 'Cheer Boys It's Hartlebury!', based around researched histories of local soldiers and hospital personnel in the Great War. There will be an opportunity to purchase signed copies of his books at the event.

Football historian Alex Connor presents the Second World origins of Stratford Town FC lead by local man Paul Bartlett with documented matches played with German and Italian prisoner of war teams.

Alex Connor is currently writing a book on Stratford Town FC which he hopes will be published in the Autumn.
